that song played many times while in the dells this past weekend.
i'm not sure what it is that makes that song so lovable (for me at least).

the dells are a strange place when there during the whoo za wah fest (sept 14-16).
shirts like "deport pedro" and dress-like shirts with faux bikini womens bodies are all the rage out there.
it's places like wizard quest and the dells boat tours that save the downtown dells from its other lame attractions.

in the past, my close "ya ya sisterhood"-like family consisted of 9 females (me, my mom, her sisters, rosie and zulma, my great aunt, hopie, and my 4 younger cousins stefanie, jazmine, mariah and jalissa) going to the dells for this huge whoo za wah art/craft/outdoor vendor fair.
every year, for what seemed to be forever, it was a "no boys allowed trip". we would pack into two cars, drive up to the mayflower hotel, unpack, eat and shop til we'd drop(literally).

this past weekend, there were 11 of us which NOW consists of a 1 year old, a 2 year old, a 6 year old, my great aunt, my aunt rosie (the babies are all hers), her husband eddy, my 3 younger cousins (stefanie, mariah and jalissa), kyle and i.
it is now a babysitting vacation.
shopping takes soooo long with that many little ones constantly in need of food, potty, sleep, attention, etc.
eating has changed a little bit with being vegetarian the last three times i've gone. plus, my taste buds have seriously changed. i used to reach for all the deep fried food i could get while out there, but now it all disgusts me.
oh and obviously the "no boys allowed" bit changed.
my uncle eddy being one of the "most annoying people to be stuck in a room with" gets a kick out of pushing people's buttons and watching them react. fun stuff.
kyle's great though. he kept the kids distracted so my poor aunt rosie could enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation with me. one must appreciate what they have and boy, do i! kyle is the best male influence in my life hands down.

all in all, i enjoyed myself. i enjoyed the time i had with the family that has stuck around for the tradition. i don't plan on continuing the tradition next year though. it kinda bummed me out being there without my mom and all the other breaking of the tradition that we did. it was fun while it lasted.

onward and forward...
i have plenty of sunshine heading my way!

+ tattoo appointment w/ tim @ deluxe sometime next week (i forget dates)
+ cabaret classes on wednesdays leading to a final performance that i'm stoked about
+ hangouts with my cousin stefanie (lots of pep talks as college/life approaches for her)
+ mom hangs. maybe another awkward laundry date?
+ dresden dolls dvd which i have to really sit down and watch. bonus material!
+ meeting my friend april's mom, brother, friends at her party.
+ halloween party at april's the following week
+ bat for lashes show (possibly with mangelina)

to do:
- invest in a good acrylic paint set
- invest in a shitty acrylic paint set. i really want to incorporate my muraling with tagging/graffiti. anyone know people interested in wicker/humboldt park?
- mix cds for cousins and friends alike
- find a good punk rock show to take stefanie to. she has yet to experience "the pit".
- sell pile o stuff stacking up in the living room
- make kitties a good bed
- work on a halloween costume!
- decorate apt for all hallows eve
- ac unit out. tacky plastic over windows in.
- update ipod
- read 1982

i should probably do some work while at work.
more updating to come...
