Oh hi there!

So it's day 3 after my mandibular/ maxillary surgery and the rumours are not untrue.. the third day is seriously the worst. I think they've either reduced the dosage of my painkillers or my stitchers are starting to hate me for my insistence on eating 1.5 bowls of porridge yesterday.. but dude man, i'm starving and that's a quarter of my daily intake. It probably doesn't help that i didn't get much sleep last night purely because i couldn't sleep.. weeps.

I'll be frank as well that on day 3 i'm starting to question why i pushed myself to go through this when it's ultimately an elective surgery and well.. i was perfectly fine with the way i looked. My doctor came in yesterday and told me it takes a psychological toll on some after the surgery but she said that she was confident i'd be fine because i was psychologically balanced and I always knew that i did it for functionality sake.

True as that may be, the pain, the discomfort and the general position of feeling really crappy on top of looking crappy and the crazy amount of water retention from my largely liquid diet is inevitably making me wish i wasnt so brave and just kept at my insistence on not having it done since i was 15 yo. Every time i'm in some sort of pain now i just tell myself that 'hey, you've done it, you've survived the surgery, so be brave and move on' but i'll honestly admit that it gets harder with the increasing water retention and as the numbness slowly wears off and i feel more and more of the pain of 60 stitches in my mouth.

It also really doesn't help that i;ve had a needle pierced through my left wrist for iv drips and antibiotics in the last three days.. and as most people who've been through some form of surgery before.. thats a mofo painful area to have a needle through and it's really uncomfortable to do anything with my left hand.

I suspect another thing that is bothering me greatly is how i'm going to look after this.. hey, i ain't going to deny i wasn't the hottest chick around but i was pretty happy with my pointy face that was at least more functional than this currently bloated and swollen face is. would i go through this again? hell no. But i've done it and my dental health better be perfect after this or I'm going to go bersek having put myself through this.

I think i need to drill into my mind more that in comparison to many others with serious health ailments and who undergo serious life-changing surgeries every other week/ month this severely pales in comparison and my current ailments do not warrant my whinging. (on a side note.. oh god, so sick of porridge.. i need to eat something else T_T). In addition, i've had awesome nurses and a more than comfortable hospital room to recover in. I'm now going to comfort myself with an episode of suits to take my mind off the soreness in my mouth...
