Giant massive post coming your way - but here's to the holidays (because I'm a gleek the first thing i thought of when i typed that was holly holiday - who is btw damn hot on the show)
So what was the highlight of the end of exams for me?
Time to read up about the elections without feeling guilty that what I'm reading has got nothing to do with my exams
but yes, I've been looking forward to going for a rally for forever and boy was I excited to go for the one at Hougang on Thurday
The atmosphere was better than I had anticipated and I can say one thing - Singaporeans are not apathetic, and that's shown in the number of people who attended the rally itself
no-life law school students.
nope, we don't partay like rockstars after our papers, we laze around at home and look forward to attending election party rallies instead...
partying with da booze is soooo passe. (even though I've never done it. whatever, so uncool - to be cool you must attend political rallies like us)
haha looking at the photo below, I've concluded we were actually quite in front as it is.. even though our view was horrendously blocked
charles turned to mark at one point and went:" Mark my tall friend, can you kindly tell us what is o=going on up there?"
and there you have it! plus there were more people across the road and people filing up the HDB blocks looking down
we were standing somewhere around the bright lights
the sight behind us
there you have half of kevin's head and on your right you have zhifeng's face
yes..mad crowd.
chilli oil wantons
black bean pork ribs - mark has to eat this whenever we eat dim sum
when we don't ...he goes slightly bersek
deep fried golden pillow toufu
wah I LOVE IT
I first visited swee choon with my Trial Advocacy tutorial class last year after our first lesson - not only was I informed that the store is run by jean ting's family but also that THIS IS LIEK THE WORLD'S YUMMIEST PIECE OF TOUFU
it comes out piping hot, the outside is crisp, the toufu inside is smooth and it's an amazing feeling to just bite into it because the toufu has been so well marinated as well with pepper and salt
to make it even better, that springle of pork floss on top makes the whole dish pure perfection
declaring this a MUST EAT.
fried beancurd skin roll with prawn and minced meat
I normally have this at crystal jade with some vinegar like sauce. Swee choon on the other hand serves it without the sauce but it tastes just as brilliant if not better - only because the prawn inside is fresh and the entire dish is so well marinated
Steamed silken egg with soy sauce
soooo goooodddddd
omg the last time I went there, rich and i literally demollished this giant serving because the texture of the steamed egg is unfathomable.
along with the golden pillow toufu, if you've been to swee choon and have never tried this, i recommend you track your way back in via deskar or serangoon road and order those two dishes
have you had banana fritters?
This is a banana + prawn + minced meat fritter and it's really good too :D
as expected, my taste buds couldn't be satisfied with swee choon alone - so here's some kickass macaroons and a reason for you to head down to marina bay even if you don't gamble or have no interest in the giant casino which is presently at the heart of many political debates this elections.
I for one couldn't give two hoots about the casino - all that concerns me is the clear negative social repercussions that are coming along with it - one thing though, take away the casino and leave sweetspot behind. tyvm..
my dog being greedy
this photo was taken shortly after he attempted to steal my macaroon from me.
TSK.
:9 best macaroons in Singapore
Got a box of raspberry-chocolate, green tea, chocolate, sea salt - caramel, earl grey and coffee-chocolate
And yesterday it was off to the line at shangri la, the second time this month for me - I am pig trufax.
the spread on weekdays isn't as good as that available on weekends, nonetheless it was good but i did miss the chocolate tart which I literally demolished the last time I was there
That being said, because there wasn't the chocolate tart for me to demolish (3 slices the last time around.. I'm surprised they haven't banned me yet) I had more space for savouries :9
The Line at Shangri La with the best LCS group known to mankind :)
round one, seafood & sashimi
california roll :9
The Line serves the yummiest california rolls and I'd queue up happily for another few of those yummy things - one thing though, mine yesterday had tonnes more rice than the one I had when I went on the first of april, perhaps standardization might be better? (with lesser rice so that I can consume more of them without getting full :D)
*beams*
sashimi overloaaad and I could honestly have had more
unfortunately however, the tuna yesterday wasn't too great - waaay too flaky, could be better
the salmon on the other hand was better than the last time I went there
smoked duck salad and thai beef salad :3
haha although it was a smoked duck salad Ivan and I happily plucked off most of the smoked duck and left the salad behind
SATAAAAYYYY
they have the yummiest satay i swear@!!
beef tandori
fresh handmade pasta, the usual and beetroot
the nicest cook ever!
beetroot with beef bolognaise :D
I simply adored the pasta
unfortuantely, starch and carbs aren't your best friends at a buffet so I couldn't finish the whole bowl for fear that I wouldn't be able to the massive array of desserts
PESTO PESTO PESTO
who could dislike pesto?@?@!?
(hatched actually serves really good pesto with their cowboy burger)
lamb shank with meat which literally fell off the bone
black pepper beef
here's my issue with beef- they often do well at buffets because they got overcooked over the heat
the chinese style beef was okay. unfortunately the roast beef which ivan and cindy got was not and as a whole, i'd reckon that unless the beef looks mad delicious.. I'd skip it.. even at the line
one thing that doesn't go wrong
SIO BAK AND CHAR SIEW
SERIOUSLY. DEAD GOOD.
SO YUMMY
WISH I TOOK ANOTHER PLATE
it was better this time around than my visit on april 1st~~
the group leader who was defeated by his bowl of laksa soup (which was not hot at all)
and proceeded to ask the waiter for a giant cup of ice cubes because he decided it was too spicy - when cindy and i could barely taste any spicyness-
I've heard countless times that laksa at The Line is really good but I didn't try it the last time around
Ivan got a bowl without noodles but with all the other ingredients and cindy, ivan and I greedily demolished what is often known as a very fattening dish - but it was really good! although I would have thrown in a few spoonfuls of chilli...
this was taken when i finished the plate of sio bak + charsiew while cindy and ivan had already started on their first round of desserts
start with a non fat hazelnut latte
the coffee taste could afford to be stronger though, it was big too mild - might have been the milk overkill
raspberry chantilly in a cup :)
crepe time! - mixed berries and mango
and of course, its a must to sprinkle chocolate sauce over it
cindy's mad pretty nails
me ranting about the exam papers.. will probably never get over how horrendous these exams were and by the time I get over it, results will be out and we'll be back to complain-queen square one (except I'll be in australia when the results are released and will probably be so distraught I'll go to the nearest cafe and scoff my face with hot chocolate and an unending flow of pancakes and eggs)
:)
and then it was off to the botanics (without buddy and victory ebcause their 2 owners thought it was going to rain)
Happy Pignic!!!
chocolate cake from audrey and cheeyao (awfully chocolate)
the pig was cut out for guowei who disappointed us all by not eating it with his hands - that's his idea of liberation btw
monopoly deal?
guowei with his new haircut
the spread
(i am btw running late so captions are going to be very short and abrupt and forget about lj-cuts because I GOT NO TIME.. maybe tonight)
THE DUCKLINGS WERE ON A DATE
and then sumien broke them up and started talking to the one with its beak open
THEY WERE TALKING. sumien is a heart breaker
the swan eating the cabbage and lettuce we bought for all the animals in the pond :D
overhead- guowei: "the $2 spent on the cabbage and lettuce is very worth it ah, they play for so long"
KNS. WE WERE BEING CHARITABLE PEOPLE OKAY. NOT PLAYING.
happy holidays friends@!
and may we visit the pond more often bearing gifts (ie cabbage and lettuce) for the terrapins and swans!!!
more to come soon
for now;.. unsurprisingly, I AM LATE.
