Saturdays are always lazy days - even when I have grand plans to start on my public law tutorial readings, i more often than not spend my saturdays lazing around and eating myself into a daze
Admittedly though, unlike Rebecca Black, Saturdays are my favourite days because I feel slightly more alive than I normally do during the rest of the week - that being said, at approx 9.30pm when I look back at my organizer and realize that I've done close to nothing, i will also end up in a state of panic and regret the moments I spent dozing off/ lazing around during the day. oh guilt, it's an awful feeling.
I also managed to catch Alexandra Wallace's fantastic racist video and of course the responses - which are honestly so funny that i laughed so hard I nearly fell of my chair. Speaking of youtube videos as well, if any of you have the time, please google overexposed: rebecca black
Not too long ago, I heard that Happy Wanton mee closed down for good and admittedly I have yet to get over the shock of its closure seeing that I have never had a bowl of wanton mee that can rival Happy Wanton mee's.. oh dear uncle :( where have you gone. Why have you deserted your loyal followers without informing us of your whereabouts - do know that you have changed my perspective of wanton mee and I don't think I'll ever be able to replace you sekret recipe and insanely good bowl of noodles.
While we're on the topic of food, Saturdays are often spent indulging because.. well.. idk really.. technically, i'm always being indulgent :P
Cafe Epicurious @ Rail Mall
$22 - The Full Monty: 3 Scrambled eggs, 3 slices of buttered toast, button mushrooms, bacon strips, mini sausages, tomato with mozzarella (this was left untouched for obvious reasons), homemade fries (which is really generous chunks of red potato fried with rosemary) and a cup of tea and a cup of fresh orange juice :9
$8.50 (for 3 slices) French Toast with marmalade and sliced strawberries and bananas
as big a fan as I am of the full monty, i personally preferred their french toast because it was so light and fluffy yet so very well done.
The bread slices are perfectly coated with egg and are cooked to just the right amount of browning *beams*
as much as I enjoyed the food there, my own quibble with Cafe Epicurious is their use of plastic plates (unfortunately, Crystal Jade has also changed all their cutlery and serving bowls and plates to plastic ones.. which is very very sad because I hate using plastic cutlery when I'm eating chinese food :( ). Thank god for Cafe Epicurious's use of cermaic cups and glass but they could improve on the plates - it would not only make the experience of eating more enjoyable but also match the atmosphere of the cafe
happy campers filled to the brim
haha and learning from other blogs that I've been reading, i guess it is necessary for me to make the disclaimer "warning no make up at all!" for the entire post.. actually, my warning would be - warning I look like death and you will get hungry if you continue to persist on scrolling through this post
loving how he stays at Bishan but gets to Rail Mall 20 mins before me (late is truly my middle name).. when I stay a grand total of 5 mins away from Rail mall by bus :D... whoops?
heehee, and guess what I got return because someone was such an annoyance on Thursday night!
*beams* Chocolate Paradigm cake from Sweet spot @ MBS
this cake has been rated as the best chocolate cake in singapore - apparently it's got 7 different type of chocolates in it and god knows how many layers of different textures
I practically gobbled it down in no time and clearly forgot about the implications of doing so on my already fat face + giant tummy + massive thighs + large hips (seriously.. would it have killed my parents to give me better genes? pfft.)
haha note that I'm holding on to a small little dessert fork which my family used to refer to as "val's mightly little fork" because I used to wander into the kitchen at around 11pm when my mum got home and sit with her at the dining table as I demolished everything on the table with my mighty little fork.. often eating most of my mum's share of food as well resulting in my mum having to make instant noodles for herself (which I would also steal with my mighty little fork)
anyway, back to the point, i wandered in to my study room with my mighty little fork and mark nearly burst into laughter at how greedy I looked as I demolished the cake with the mighty little fork :D
woohoo, I also got macaroons from sweetspot *beams*
Passionfruit, green tea, chocolate- coffee, raspberry-chocolate, mandarin orange and a flavour I'm not sure of (because mark shan is spastic that way... I asked him what it was and he gave me this blank look)
the macaroon which flavour mark cannot remember and no matter how hard we tried, we couldn't tell what flavour it was
nonetheless, it was so insanely good I was more than pleased that mark chose it even if he couldn't remember what it was
munccchh
we concluded midway through that it's probably some citrusy flavour with chocolate because there's an underlying citrus taste but it was so subtle we really couldn't put a finger to it
the closest I could guess was grapefruit (and even then lousy mark shan couldn't confirm whether my guess was right)
Seriously, the best macaroon I've had
Since the first time i tried sweetspot macaroons (thanks to kevinisapanda) I've been hooked to them and I cannot imagine eating any other macaroons sold in singapore
At $2/ piece, the outer layer is crisp and once you bite into it, the inside of the macaroon is so light and fluffy making it truly addictive.
throw in the fact that their macaroons aren't even half as sweet as those normally sold and the filling is so well made and compliments the macaroons (Y) happiness ttm.
because it is Saturday and because there's a 99% chance that I won't be baking until the end of this semester and also because I haven't baked since forever, I decided to make myself some chocolate chip and walnut cookies (also because I consume cookies like water when i'm trying to do my work)
chocolate chip and walnut cookies :9
Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and I stirred in so much chocolate chips and walnuts every bite is gooey chocolate madness
*beams* I am truly ready for the exams with my giant stash of cookies, my neat table at home and the only thing I need to do is get off my damn laptop/ blog/ handphone and start doing some work *Yay*
