It never ceases to amaze me how incredibly stupid people can be. This is not to say I don't have my moments lacking in the brilliance of my genius, but what I'm talking about specifically is people trying to prove either God's existence or disprove it. Before I forget, someone said and I quote "People say life comes from cells and this means that God cannot exist, because it is scientific"
I bring this up because we just finished our j-sem debates today and people managed not to argue either side of it, even the one the actually believed in. This however wasn't as bad as certain people trying to prove either while having not a clue as to what they were actually saying.
An illustration would be someone who shall not be named trying to prove to me that God exists, which I believe anyway, but I figured it would be fun to see if I could win. Anyhow his first argument was that since the Bible is true God exists, and we know that the Bible is true because the Bible says so. While astoundingly stupid in itself this shocked me because I had just seen this exact argument from Jon Stewart who was mocking theists.
As if this were not enough, he used the fact that Jesus' tomb is empty as proof that he existed and was divine. Ho hum. Usually something NOT being there constitutes disproof of its existence. To use this logic, I could say: I don't have a million dollars in my wallet, therefore I have a million dollars.
Another argument that was impressive was this:
There is a tribe in South Africa that no one has ever come into contact with that believes in God, thefore God exists. Well first of all, let us ignore the obvious fact that if no one ever came into contact w/ them we wouldn't know what they thought or if indeed they existed, even if we could communicate with them. This argument is essentially saying that since I believe in God, God exists. Alternatively, it is saying that since lots of people believe in God, God exists. At this point I felt it neccessary to point out to him that lots of people believe in aliens, which he cleverly refuted with "no".
In summation, people are stupid, and no I'm not included in that because I say I'm not, and I know I'm right because I say I'm right.
