It seems like I haven't posted in forever, and now I know why. It's that same old thing with blogging though...when things are good you don't often sit down to write about them.
My job continues to amuse me. Yes, I work for major pharmaceutical corporations by proxy and I was asked at a DL a few times ago whether that bothered me. Really it doesn't. They may charge a lot for these drugs we're studying, but which is better...to have a drug that fixes a problem or not? Depression, anxiety, alzheimer's...even restless leg can really fuck up a person's life. Increasing quality of life is a positive goal in my opinion and I get to spend my days doing a small part of the puzzle that makes that happen. It helps that I work with people I enjoy being around as well. This makes the "hey, you're not going to grad school next fall" blow a little easier to take. Maybe the universe is telling me there's something for me here in Denver? I don't know.
This weekend was one of those that just makes me happy to be alive. Friday morning...baking! Chocolatey chocolate chip cookies. mmmmmm. Friday afternoon I hung out w/ Payal & Ben and their friends (which apparently includes David's cousin friend Ingrid...small world), then hosted a poker game at my house. Saturday was quite nice, then out again w/ Ritika & Steve and a couple other peoples. We went Cosmic Bowling at the alley by the Westminster Mall where I spent many many late nights in high school. Cosmic Bowling has lost some of its luster in the past few years oddly enough. And I don't bowl nearly as well with beer in my tummy. I hit 104 and 103 which have to be 2 of my lowest scores since before high school. Oh well. Today was hiking again w/ Stephanie and Arlo up by Golden. Always a good time and the weather has been spectacular the last couple Sundays. Mid 60's, sunny, slight breeze at just the right time when you're statrting to get warm...good time to be outside. Came home, napped, then made lasagna and bread which just came out of the oven. And that was the weekend.
Also Friday I went over to the 'rents' house to learn the Katie routine so I can meet the bus on future Fridays. It was a fairly eye-opening experience. I haven't lived at home in 8 years and have really only seen Katie when I'm over eating dinner or home for the holidays and such. Small doses in other words. She's grown quite a bit...with a little prompting she can suction herself now, get her own snack ready...she has a portable keyboard she carries in her backback and she can type things out if somebody doesn't know the Katie-modified sign for Barbie or Target. They've been working on the address and phone number thing and she can get both out (with a little correction at this point). I'm proud of Katie for learning this stuff, and proud of my parents for getting her to this point in her life.
