Poor Rosi :(

Most of the others in class dissed Rosi Braidotti and her attempt at defining a "post-national non-eurocentric nomadic European identity". They said she's utopistic and does not take into account the practical power relations and social reality in the European context.

Bollocks, say I. It seemed to me that people had a hard time undertanding the relationship of theory and practise. They wouldn't agree that challenging one's thinking with utopistic theories would amount to any good because they were so stuck on their notion of the essentiality of national identities. I also felt that my examples of European identities forming themselves online were disregarded. And I even consented that they're eurocentric because the practical transgressions will always be more modest than the theoretical possibilities.

Yeah, whatever. I'm probably still stuck on queer myself. It gave a name and a language to speak about my actual experiences so it's kind of silly to make statements such as "these shifting identities are not correspondant with people's reality". My appreciation of the dynamic post-modern identities does not clash with the modernist way of thinking and more stable categories - I find that these two can co-exist rather happily and will do until the human thinking progresses on to the next level. If it ever does.

Naturally, I kept my mouth shut after being ignored twice :)
