like very much so. but anyway.
wednesday night was finishing jesse's table. after attempting to make do with the krazy glue and craft bond, we finally caved and made a trip to walmart and picked up the best glue around, good ol' elmer's. the gel kind though, and apparently the best way to glue down bottle caps to a table is just to spread out a layer of the stuff and set the caps in. or so i think. jesse hasn't really told me how that turned out. hopefully well. the remainder of my weekdays i feel were pretty blah. to be honest, i don't really remember much of anything from them. so we'll just assume nothing happened.
so i left work friday around noon but decided that meant hitting d.c. around 4 which is prime traffic hour, even though i'd be heading into d.c. rather than out of. pushed the departure til 2 and tried burning some cd's for the trip but that took too long. packed up the car, got gas, headed off. hit the d.c. area around 5:30 and still hit some traffic on 95 which was fabulously unnecessary in my opinion. got incredibly lost getting into d.c. and ended up on the one road that doesn't actually cross any of the other main roads but rather goes under them, so i couldn't turn onto any street i wanted to. had to kind of wing it using the two maps in my lap and almost died from taxis that seemed just about as lost as i was. got to gtown ok and drove by the barnes and noble but parking in the area is a disaster and i finally parked by the smelly waterfront. found kristie working the café and she squealed and ran towards me and caused a small scene in the hoity toity starbucks. but it was good times, i went shopping for a bit and then decided i was too exhausted to do much alone so i went to her dorm room in gw and crashed for a couple hours til she came back. by then i was just too dead to do much anything so we spent the night talking and watching a most excellent thunderstorm until like 3 in the morning, which mean getting up at 7:30 for breakfast before she had to go to work did not happen. woke up instead at 9 and she left and i met sudip (yeah gsp!) and we took the metro into town. walked around and had lunch at the washington hotel on their terrace so it was a really great view of the city, even though there was some elevator difficulties. then as we were walking by the whitehouse, i saw DONAHUE and did my squealing and caused a scene running through about five peoples pictures to attack him and see his family. so after that sudip and i checked out some of the smithsonians and wrestled our way through hordes of boyscouts enjoying their national jamboree. had nice little conversations with our mutual friends todd and wusi, and basically sweated our way from one air conditioned place to another. saw an imax on fighter planes which was a bit of a letdown and not nearly as cool as the 3-d space station one looked (bummer, damn boyscouts bought all the tix) but it was good times even though my legs were dead by the time i crashed on kristie's floor again. she got back soon afterwards and we went to dupont circle (again) and basically had a four course meal of a)wraps, b)kahlua walnut pie, c) ice cream and d) pizza. i didn't really partake so much in the latter two, but i do love my lardass :) oh and if anyone wants to buy me a book, the new john irving novel and a book titled "a life in the merde" looked way cool. so we went back and i completely crashed at like 11:30 and the next morning we had brunch when we wandered back to dupont since downtown d.c. is pretty dead on a sunday. it was most excellent and then i left, hit a nice hour of traffic trying to get out of the damn city, found gas and the light that never turned green in "the friendliest little city around" and got back to duke circa 5 pm. chatted wih anna leigh and then élan came back and we traded weekend stories. just kind of unpacked and made the worst biscuits ever. talked to brandon who finally turned in his amcas two weeks later than he said he would, and basically fell into a happy slumber only to wake up this morning to three days of heat-advisories in durham (100+ heat + humidity = one hot and not in the good way vy).
three weeks til kentucky!
