It seems I've gone about posting the photos and commentary about my NYC trip in haphazard order. Now, I'm going back to the beginning. Let me tell you, I was so excited I started snapping pictures as soon as I got off the plane. Yep, as touristy as a person can get...
Yes, I took a snap of the "Welcome to New York" sign at LaGuardia airport. So sue me.
The very pleasant suburban street in Flushing, Queens, where I stayed with a dear friend. No shot of the house itself, or my hostess, to protect her privacy. This street reminded me of the street where I grew up in Pennsylvania.
One of my top priorities items on my "to do" list was to enjoy a traditional New York bagel. Sue took me to her favorite bagel shop in Queens, where they make their bagels fresh daily, the old fashioned way. My first time enjoying a bagel with lox and cream cheese - very tasty indeed.
Walking to the bus stop from the bagel shop, we came across this bit of uplifting graffiti.
I got a quick introduction to the NYC bus and subway system. We had to ride a bus to downtown Flushing to catch the 7 subway into Manhattan.
Escalators galore!
And then there was Grand Central Terminal - my point of entry to Manhattan.
More Grand Central.
The main concourse at Grand Central.
We wandered around Grand Central for a while, enjoying the crazy hustle and bustle. Everybody seemed so purposeful, except for us. Here's the famous Oyster Bar on the lower level. Some day I want to eat there, but didn't manage it this trip.
Next up - East 42nd Street, the UN area and the upper East Side
