It's Odd

When I was young, living in the middle of nowhere, exposed to nothing, this how I imagined them. Wearing sheath dresses and expensive heeled boots. Stylish little hair cuts and just so jewelry. Speaking casually of attending the same wedding as the Vice President of the US.

Their mother, a mix of cocktails and crosses. The sort of woman who starts drinking by lunch, but never smudges her lipstick. Who attends mass faithfully, sings every verse, always looks smashing, buys the best champagne.

I just never imagined that they'd be so utterly genuine. So enthrallingly honest. So perfectly... nice.

She said I had a quirky sense of something. And it just felt like one of the nicest, most perfect compliments anyone had ever given me.

It's so odd to enjoy the holidays. I guess this is what family is like.
