It is not so often new monuments in Kaunas are built these days. But on Monday, August 23 one new and rather interesting monument was built - "Mothers of partisans":
Here in Kaunas there were no many monuments built during last decade (in 1990s - yes , many were built, but not in 2000s). Busts were built often, memorial tables also but not the "real" monuments.
One of those new monuments has been opened on Monday, August 23. It is called "Mothers of partisans" (sculptor Vidmantas Gylikis) and as the record on the monuments says that it is devoted for the mothers of those who lost their lives for the freedom of Lithuania. Monument is almost "private" since the funds necessary for the monument were collected by the Lithuanian union of political prisoners (only the erection itself has been financed by the Kaunas municipality).
Today I for the first time saw this monument and the artistic idea looked rather interesting to me.
