Own president :)))

You probably know who this guy is :

Lithuania has strange historic tradition to produce heads of the Polish state. From last Sunday neighboring country has new president - elect. And he is also a continuation of a long historic tradition - our product :)))

Not to mention old historic examples I need to say that only in the XXth century two man who were the natives of this country were the heads of the Polish state - first president of II RP Gabriel Narutowicz was the native of Telšiai area and the Head of the State legendary Marszalek Juzef Pilsudski was born in the modern Švenčionys district. I began to worry that this old historic tradition may be broken at the end of XXth century and in the XXIst century but last Sunday everything went back to the normal state :))))

From XVIth century in the north of Lithuania is known noble Kamarauskas family. In the XVIIIth century the family was Polonized and became known as Komorowski family. Counts Komorowkis had in their possession estate of Kavoliškis near Rokiškis district center. In this estate father of future president was born in 1925 and his grandparents are buried. In 1940 Komorowskis were forced to leave this country and Bronislaw was born in 1952 in Silesia. But in his Warsaw residence family preserves insignias of Kavoliškis estate.  His mother is also somehow related with this country: her family were the natives of Poznan area and in the 1939 after the outbreak of the war fled to Vilnius to seek the refuge from the war but only to be arrested and deported to Siberia...

About ten years ago then ordinary Polish politician bought estate in the Suwalki area near the lake Szelment. He answered to the question of surprised Polish journalists why he bought estate in such deep province of Poland :  " To see better my motherland". On Monday he surprised Lithuanian president D. Grybauskaite on first phone call when he began to speak Lithuanian (for a few years he is studying Lithuanian): she spoke in Polish he in Lithuanian :)))

So here is several photos by blogger Civis from our local forum miestai.net:

Kavoliškis estate didn't survived to our days. From the old estate today you can find only several buildings of cholocate factory "Delicje" run by the Komorowskis 100 years ago. There are rumours that some businessman wants to reestablish the production of chocolates in the Kavoliškis (why not ? Chocolate "President" :)))

Those two remaining buildings:

Remains of the former park alley:

Main building of the estate early in the XXth century - the family wasn't very rich :

These days this place looks like this:
