One more transformation

This year is very fruitefull when talking about transformations of once famous buildings. Today about recently started reconstruction/demolition of once very popular cafe of students of Kaunas University of Technology (for a long period known as Kaunas polytechnic nstitute) called Kolegos. Built around  1970 it for at least 25 years was the main dining place for students of this university (we need to note that for a long time this was in fact single technical unversity in the country and still majority of engineers and many other industrial specialists and industry leaders in this country are alumni of the university). Today I found the next view:

The building is under the demolition and will be replaced by the new one.

Old Kolegos building wasn't exceptional building but was organic part of the campus of KTU - good product of the 1960s-1970s. This photo made definetely before 1980 shows it during its golden period:

In 1990s it started to lose the attraction because of the new cafes and clubs that became more popular among students and was closed as a cafe and club some time around 2000.  The last 20 years building was used for different purposes but obviously degraded. And the time finally came when the demolition started:

Whats next ? Here will be built new  laboratory and prototyping center M-Lab. It will be new and another building but authors decided to give tribute to the old building and the new one will try to resemble the old one. At the same time it must be very advanced and enviromentaly friendly buildng, e.g. all plastic details used will made exclusively from bioplastic, etc.
