Tarascon - a view from the train

Nov 28, 2011 16:49

We don't visited Tarascon. For the first time I heard about this township only when going from Nimes to Arles and Avignon: in this township train chooses the direction - to Arles or to Avignon. But even from the train window we observed that this township is very rich - it has at least two castles, few churches, etc. Only in Avignon I got knowledge that Tarascon castle is the landmark in the development of Gothic architecture ...
So here only few photos made from train window to Tarascon:

When traveling in France and other countries of this region you may be sure that even in the small townships you will find various monuments of world scale. So was with Tarascon. I never heard before about such township and don't had plans to visit it. Tarascon was only on our way from Nimes to Arles and Nimes to Avignon.
But even from from the train window you could see that small (about 12 thousand residents) town has impressive architectural monuments. You easily can see at least two different castles in different corners of the town, impressive Cathedral, town hall , etc.
Later in Avignon I found description about Tarascon castle: one of it's castles was landmark in the development of Gothic architecture. But since this description was in French only I was unable to understand everything ...
So in this brief report only photos made from the train :)

The first view of Tarascon - the castle Nr 1:

Next time on the arrival to Tarascon I was ready to make better photo :) (this castle built between 1400-1435)

Soon you can see that's not enough:

My attempt to get a photo of the Tarascon center:

And few seconds later I was completely surprised - the castle Nr. 2 (castle built between 1305 and 1320):

Some better attempt:

How they looks - the provincial townships of France ...
