Chicken murder mysteries
Another chicken got eaten last night. Someone left the little door on the hen house open and the critter got in and grabbed a hen right out of its nest. The trail of feathers went right past our bedroom window.
I suspect the perpetrator is the gray fox that we caught but let go a month ago. The trail of feathers matched exactly the path the fox took when we let it out of the live trap. So much for sentiment.
The other reason I suspect a fox is that both the both the duck and chicken were taken when a part of the pen was left open. A week ago someone left one of the panels unwired so that an animal needed only to push against it from the outside to get in. The panels I made the cage from are only 4ft high and there is no top to the pen. I think a raccoon or opossum would have just climbed over, a skunk would have squeezed underneath.
