the show that travelled away?
I keep having this recurring dream in which I'm riding Metrorail, somewhere on a east/west segment of the line up near Hialeah, and looking out the window at one or two closed amusement parks or carnivals nearby.
Sometimes I find myself in these dreams wondering if I could get in there and just walk around it, despite all the rides being long since closed and rusted over, and the games and everything long since packed up and taken away.
Sometimes I find myself just wishing it were still open so I could have visited and enjoyed the place at least once.
I have positively identified a couple of possible locations where this could be, as the imagery is very vivid, realistic, and pretty damn accurate to real surroundings.
First possibility (likely): Hialeah Park. There was once an amusement park here, actually...! Wikipedia / GMap / Bing
Second possibility: Flea Market USA. This would be suggested by the location being just outside of a curve on the Metrorail line, as I saw it once. In this same dream, the amusement park was small and rectangular parallel to the line as it straightened out, which seems to make this a definite hit. It's also possible it's where Northside Plaza is now, which, as far as I can tell, contains another indoor flea market...? GMap / Bing
I'm really curious as to what significance this has, if any. I've never been to either place, though I have seen a sign on Flea Market USA advertising that it has a circus (where? it's pretty small!) The area around Flea Market USA is kinda dodgy, but probably wasn't in the years prior to the Liberty City riots. chaosmeika knows what I'm talking about here... XD
In fact... it probably HAS to be Hialeah Park. In 1925, it HAD an amusement park, destroyed in 1926 by the hurricane.
Now... why do I keep seeing it in this dream... through the window of a far more modern conveyance, that hadn't even been dreamed of back when it would have existed?
This is so odd. I think I'm going to try to find some historical photographs that show the amusement area and try to explore those same areas a bit. I have the feeling someone, either present among us in the physical world or departed, is trying to share something with me.
