Of all places... I thought CA would be the place for acceptance and remind that such discriminatory measures should be shot down... But it seems like Prop 8 has passed in CA. I know FL and AZ had similar ballot measures but CA hits closer to home than any other. With everything I love and enjoy - Hollywood, wineries, the ghey mecca (San Fran) - I hoped for the best. With big names like Ellen, Spielberg, and progressive companies like Google, Apple and even Microsoft showing their support, the measure passed.
It's astonishing when you look at the breakdown... The percentages of minorities and women who voted FOR Prop 8 just shocked me. I guess they feel that it's ok to discriminate against other minorities when their struggle has gone down. I just don't get it.
Obama winning is a good move for the country... But with the clear acceptance of discrimination and bigotry by all these people, I know there's a long road ahead for us to gain equality.
I just hope to see that day come... Hopefully before I meet that special someone in my life... Or return to him.
