I hate waking up to thunderstorms. There's nothing worse than having to get up to the sound of rain pelting the windowpanes, and thunder clapping repeatedly. Those are the mornings you just want to stay in bed till 11:00, then sit around and read a good book in your jammies until 3:00.

I piddled around as long as I could this morning before going out and facing the floods the raging rain had brought. Getting to my car--parked all off 30' away from the front door, across the street--required jumping across a stream of water 3' wide and 6" deep. Georgia needs the rain, but the streets of Atlanta surely aren't set up to handle the deluges we occasionally get here in the wettest city in the country.

About a month ago, ssullivan and I wandered up to Lake Lanier to see the devastation the drought had wrought. The Lake is roughly 20' below normal, and it'll supposedly take almost four years of above average rain to refill it completely. Of course, with the cities untamed growth and the state's general inability to figure out how to create feasible, permanent solutions to what will surely be a problem again in the future, there's a good chance that the man-made Lake may never return to "normal."
