The weekend that was involved far too little dancing, but did have some good times with a lot of people. I saw the first couple Buffy episodes over at
recalcitranttoy's, along with too much wine, defined as a little over a glass of same. This might be because most of that was drunk before my hard-won Safeway veggie lasagna. For future reference, there's very little fast food available once you get past Old Georgetown Road. And the little mall-like object on River is at Falls Road, not at 7 Locks. And all but the Safeway closes at 9. Somehow I spent 1.5 hrs driving around once I left the Georgia/University liquor store, but somehow I also didn't much mind. And
easy_living makes truly amazing cake.
Saturday started far later than perhaps it should've, but not all that much later than one might expect given that I got home well after 2. Or 3. Or something. Silent cellphones are a good thing. Puttering about, and much time on the phone, and too much time on LJ/Facebook, and a vague intent to clean house all meant that I didn't leave for a certain annual gathering until far later than I really needed to in order to make it to a later birthday gathering on time, but the stars aligned such that I was the only one wanting to arrive after the party was seated, so a delayed arrival would be okay. Which gave me around 45 minutes to see a bunch of folk who weren't going to be around when I later returned, and especially gave me a chance to watch
senora_gem play with the 'silly noise generator*' on
lonebear.
Then off across the wilds to Gaithersburg and a birthday gathering, where I counted myself exceedingly lucky that the open seat left available for me was not only at the birthday boy's table but close to him and his lovely wife! And on my other side were two other folk I didn't know would be there and I seem to see every year or so of late. So there was much happiness. Even better, the huge heavy rain began and ended while we were inside!
And then driving /back/ across the wilds, where the annual-gathering had wound mostly down such that I only knew two or three folk there, but it was interesting conversation to listen to, and hot tub and night swimming. Sadly, I had an object lesson on improvised flotation: do not use something with velcro as a kickboard - it's not good for the brand new bathing suit, no, no, no.
And so a very late night again, and a nice sleep in come morning (despite Mom calling at 10:30 with the location of my work-badge) and a quick trip to the store, and a lot of time on the phone and too much time on the Internet and too little water and a realization that if I wanted to go to work early this morning I no longer had time to go dancing. Oops. But I walked to the fish market and back and watched the sunset from the roof and got a little done on my work machine and caught up with CaliforniaEx and that was all a good thing. It's another reminder that I need to make plans or I do nothing, but that's not always a bad thing. (waves 'bye to
suellenr, though.)
And so this morning I somehow managed to get up before 7 and out before 8. Confused my coworkers muchly.
And so the weekend that will be . . .
Well, for one thing, Peaches O'Dell will be at Glen Echo on Saturday night. Flyingfeet dance, which means that I'll be there, and volunteering as needed. Proceeds this time to Leukemia & Lymphoma society. Lesson 8-9; dance till midnight.
I keep thinking there's got to be something going on for the Friday and the Sunday, but heck if I know what. So perhaps I shall go dancing, maybe even Contra? Probably finally get started back on MomApartment, if nothing else. Whatever happened to July?
* that would be his chest hair. Which was suddenly out of reach when he zipped the bike-shirt, so I predict the first clothing fastener
senora_gem will be able to work will be zippers...
