I might come back and edit later, but the Covid memorial on the Mall

Sep 28, 2021 17:55

The Covid memorial on the Mall (through 3 October) is actually on the North part of the Monument Grounds, where the Burning Man on the Mall has been in past years. Up by the African American Museum.

Currently around 690,000 little flags, 4x6 I guess.

People who show up in person can get a blank flag to write on and then place, returning the original blank. Choose whether to allow the writing, the dedication, to be included in the digital sphere.

People who are remote can use the InAmericaFlags.org website to request a volunteer transcribe their dedication.

Over on FB I've posted some pics and video. I was talking with someone who was unimpressed. "I guess you had to be there," he said. I realized that yes, maybe that's true. How do you get across something of that magnitude from ground level.

So when I saw an aerial view I figured that would be important to show.

Here's a few others:

There's also a need for lots of volunteers to take everything down next week, as well as to work with people for dedicating flags and also just making sure they're all upright especially after rain.

Here are the in person dedication instructions:
