Some of the background is that somehow on Monday I made my back unhappy with, if you would believe, trying on a sports tank with too tight a band around my ribs. I'd proably done something to prime it earlier, but that was the pathetic proximate cause. It was bad enough that driving a few hours later made me realize why people aren't to drive after back surgery, and that a jig walk during flyingfeet class was way too twisty. Better, now, and hadn't hurt since Tuesday, (a bit of twinge Wednesday), but I've been carrying markedly less stuff with me all week, and have skipped the vast majority of available dancing.
I came very close , despite M's assertion that At My Age a couple weeks of rest was more appropriate, to going to TSNY for partner acro on Friday, as it happened to be a time I could make it, and it was looking like only a couple people in the class. This was after having decided not to, and after entirely too long in the day just not getting anywhere with anything, and failing to find some Very Important Things I Need As Executor because there are Too Many Bags and Too Many Places and I don''t remember what the envelope looked like and apparently they aren't in the envelope I was supersure they were in. At least I did find my driver's license. In any case it had gotten far too late to drive out to they Y to use the outdoor pool and hot tub, and in fact to do much of anything before I"d be meeting up with BadM (there had been talk of the Y with M, but not hearing from him re that being a yes until quarter to 5 was . . . .suboptimal.) I was going to go to the apartment building happy hour, but then thought I could get to TSNY by 6:30 and called them, and wasn't going to get there in time, but found out that they could schedule lessons whenever, actually. Which meant that not messing with my back solely because it would be a month before I could next make it to a scheduled class became a thing.
And so I got to the building happy hour for the first time in, um, all the years I've lived here, and it was quite nice. and then
badmagic and I went and had far too many onion rings at Z burger before going on to a party at one of the blues houses, which had some fun live music but never did get back to the bawdy pub singing I was hoping to participate in. And then yesterday we wandered around VegDC,, with many many samples of yummy vegan things and other vegan things to buy, and then I walked back to my place with him, and contemplated the H st festival, but then got a txt that folks were indeed acroyoga jamming, and I made my way back over there, and, well,
yeah, my back's tight but not quite hurting, and I'll take it a little more easy hte next couple days before cleveland.
And the rest of the evening continued to amuse (although, I could have done without Google taking me to NE when actually we were going to Barracks Row) because I joined
somewanker for DC Kings do Weird Al. There was much worry what with difficulties with Metro and then ending up in the wrong place, but as it was it was probably for the best that we arrived at 9:20 for the 9:00 show, as it started at 9:45. I wish I'd had more dollar bills.
The opener was Eat It, which was truly excellent, great moves, fun props, speed banana eating contest, a sudden banana costume, and very good lip syncing. I'd never heard "I guess you don't love me anymore," but again, way well done. Extra amusement from watching them figure out how to get rid of the drunk audience member during Tacky, but unlike Eat It, Dont Love Me, and Amish Paradise (still pinged male even after the beard fell off), that one lends itself less well to being acted out. Foil was of course wonderful. I'd submit that fast raps are really hard to do for a lip sync show; White and Nerdy (she wore a spock outfit, kinda, with elf ears, but it was really realy hard to parse any words) and Pentium (the sparkly keyboard was wonderful, but again, the wordsj ust go by too fast) really suffered for that. There was also a bonus fan dance and a live singing of one of the songs, and the people setting up the mike and music stand do not seem to understand mikes. Oh, and Rocky Road :)
I need to go look for some things out by momapartment before going up to North Baltimore for Paula's memorial. So I should stop typing and get dressed. Was tempted to chang to the orange and purple dress 'cause her fave color was orange and it goes with my orange jacket, but the red and black is the one of that pair that she helped me pin so it would be finally wearable, and today will be the first time I wear it, so I think that works.
Oh, and re the RKO thing at Wheaton Rescue Squad, the deadline for pre-buy is 9/25 for dinner, or 9/26 for just the lesson and show/dance. Lesson/show can be bought at the door but is $5 more.
