Where the weekend went

Oct 18, 2010 10:27

Had I had more energy and less coughing, I'd have spent some time over the weekend making campaign calls via https://call.barackobama.com/ . I'm reminded of this, strangely enough, by the reports that President Obama will be on an upcoming Mythbusters.

Anyway, I'm seeing a lot of prep for the Rally to Restore Sanity (and yes I do expect I'll walk up there) but almost nothing about the upcoming midterm elections. Mostly, a vast majority of we who made 2008 happen have been kinda ignoring this year. Unfortunately that may mean a lot of lost seats. Anyway, ping me or follow the above link if you feel like doing some GOTV calls.

The vast majority of where the weekend went was sleeping or intending to sleep. Missed a couple of gatherings I kinda wish I'd gotten to, and was pissed off at myself for somehow being up half the night anyway and then sleeping til 4:30pm yesterday.

That said, I did still get to an anniversary/doublebirthday party on Friday and left when coughing started, and I had a lot of nice walking about with weskeag on Saturday. We went 'round the tidal basin and back, and that took a lot out of me and of him, so I guess the lack of driving hither and yon had merit.

And I still got out some last night, and have had leftover thai as part of breakfast.

Many thoughts provoked in various directions; no time to write about any of this now. Lessons learned, not particularly related: Prednisone does seem to keep me up, and Celestial Seasonings has a new Chamomile tea with added Valerian; using a mug of that to try to stop coughing at 9 yesterday morning might have been okay, but perhaps making each cup by adding another teabag to that remaining from the previous cups brewed . . . may have been a poor choice. Or a good choice - I seem to have needed that extra sleep.

Abx + mostly not coughing means I'm going to visit with Mom tonight; I'll probably still go to the performance class. New classes start in two weeks, both of which are a really good choice for starting off - there's a general holiday sampler and a holiday swing sampler. The former will get you started with a little of the most common office party music - a little swing, a little waltz, a little salsa, a little foxtrot. The latter helps figure out how to swing to more specific types of tunes.

Oh, and this coming weekend there's a hangar dance out at Leesburg Airport. WWII vintage planes, the Radio King Orchestra, encouraged (but not required) costuming/uniforms. advance tickets here - dance lesson at 7; dinner available for extra charge at 5. The planes have been moved out of the hangar to make room & the big band is set up & ready to play. The sounds of Basie, Goodman, Miller & more will mix with those of the planes as you swing the night away.....

Join us on Saturday, October 23rd at the Landmark Aviation Hangar at the Leesburg Executive Airport for the 8th Annual CAF WWII Canteen Dance with the Radio King Orchestra. Don your favorite vintage outfit, grab your dancing shoes, and round up your dancing (and non-dancing) friends for a great night of dancing and unparalleled atmosphere! (1st place prize a couple of years ago was the chance to fly in one of the vintage WWII planes!! How cool is that?!?!?!)

Cost for Dinner & Dancing is only $35 in advance or $40 at the door. The dance alone (no dinner) is only $20 in advance or $25 at the door. All proceeds go to benefit the National Capitol Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force. This 501(c)3 charitable organization is dedicated to preserving the history/legacy of the Greatest Generation. The CAF buys vintage WWII planes and restores them to keep the ol' warbirds flying.
