I just wrote my first Christmas poem! I wrote it for the company Christmas party tonight. There are a lot of inside jokes, but most of the funnies any decent Geek would understand. Let me preface that my boss's office nickname is "Nooner", I am "SAK", Jason is "Sheppie", and then there's Mac, who needs no nickname. UT is Urban Terror, a complete game mod for Quake III Arena, which we play at the end of every work day. Oh, and MONITOR is the MS Workstation name for our Sitescope server. :)
The Nightmare Of Upgrades
'Twas the night we call Friday, the end of the week.
The gaming was done and of frags we did speak.
Our daylight was failing; night came as it bade,
And up went old Nooner for a system upgrade!
Microsoft released an important warning that day.
But it was Friday, and Nooner should know not to stay!
"There ain't no harm, just a security patch!"
Unwittingly 'twas he that let evil hatch.
Right away he did download, and save that file.
But alone he sat, no techs 'round for a mile.
How wrong that was then, when came "BEEP" and came "BOOP"!
The computer cried "ERROR!" and Nooner yelled, "Poop!"
He tried with his wits, and he tried with his skill,
When that didn't work, he used a power drill.
Then came the grind, and the crack of the platter.
The array went and died, to worsen the matter.
But ho! there is help, the alert message paged.
For \\MONITOR came through before Nooner enraged!
Come save our day! On Sheppie! On Mac!
And sure, what the hell, they even paged SAK!
With mad tech skillz they barged into the room,
And away from Nooner's eyes fell the haze of doom.
With a click and a clack, and a registry tweak,
Our sweet Friday night was no longer so bleak.
There we all sat, 'round server reliant,
Serving up pages, all standards compliant.
Nooner said, "Great team! You really saved me!"
Then Sheppie exclaimed, "Let's play some UT!"
