night has fallen here in Paradise, California. it it once again 80 degrees now at 10 PM. we ventured out to Chico, California to the local Costco. my mother drove as my eyes had been bothering me this morning. i purchased a gift for my dear friend, Emily, and a 100 count box of tampax. we then went to Lowes for a sprinkler, then a grocery store where I purchased a snickers bar but did not find pre-made jello shots. on Skyway, the long scenic road back to Paradise, as i made final texting use of my cell phone, which gets little to no service at my grandma's house, something under the hood of the car blew. liquid and steam shot out of the right side of the hood as my mom pulled the car to the narrow shoulder on the right side of the road. asshole cars swerved around us without slowing and showing little concern for our safety. as we stepped out of the car, i took the initiative to call triple AAA as my mom and grandma worried and fretted about the heat and the midday sun. we were over five miles either direction from the next road and shade was not easy to come by. i had to describe our location which felt very much like the middle of nowhere to someone who had never even heard of the cities we were between. luckily i kept my cool and communicated with success, bringing a tow truck to us within half an hour. we got a ride to the house and picked up my mom's van, then drove back to the auto repair shop. i went inside and tried to talk to this awesome parrot named pepe. i was careful as the sign indicated that pepe may bite. however, when he started ducking his beak down and leaning the top of his head on the wire cage, i couldn't resist petting him. after a few quick finger pets, he did a little dance! if you know me well then you will understand how this pleased me. after returning home, i looked at old pictures on my grandma's computer, ate dinner, and caught up on days of our lives. a highlight of the evening was explaining to my grandma why my dear friend, Emily, shaves her head. i concluded that it is simply to be difficult. that might have been the only answer my grandma would accept.
the tow truck man told us the problem was an easy fix. apparently some hose completely broke, and it shouldn't have considering her '99 Toyota Avalon had less than 40,000 miles on it. it was quite bizarre that on the way to Chico, my grandma pointed out Ken's Auto Shop and told us about the cute parrot they have there. maybe i have a special power. do i remind you of the babe? tomorrow we find out the fate of the car and i'll remember to capture pepe on my digital camera.
