Notes: I tried to add more to the ending but I didn't like how those endings came out so it shall remain a short ficlet. :)

It was one of those beautiful surreal autumn days. The gray trees were bare causing them to blend in with the cloudy late after noon sky, the ground was moist with earlier the rainfall, and the leaves in all of their range of gold, oranges, and browns brought life and color to the stony park path ways.

Kai had his hands tucked in his navy blue jacket pockets. He was walking through the park admiring the view. When he came to the lake he walked down to a bench and took a seat. A family of ducks, a mother and her trail of babies, went swimming by him. Kai could not help but smile at the cute family.

“Kai.” He turned around and smiled at the blond man behind him.

“Hello Ruki,” Kai said.

“Hey,” Ruki answered. He walked around the bench and took a seat next to the other man.

“Aren’t you cold?” Kai asked noticing that Ruki did not have a jacket on.

“No really,” Ruki said looking down at his black long sleeve shirt and his blue jeans that he had on. “I didn’t notice what the weather was like.”

“How can you not notice the weather?” Kai chuckled. “It’s not exactly a short walk from your place to the park.”

“Well,” Ruki started. “I guess I was too busy thinking about getting to be with you that I forgot to think about how cold it might be outside.”

Kai was silent after that. He shifted his body around and crossed his leg only to uncross it again one second later. The family of ducks came swimming by again, and the wind made its appearance known by blowing a few leaves that could no longer cling onto their tree branches off and onto the ground. Kai looked over at the man, his friend, sitting next to him. “You have a leaf in your hair.”

Ruki reached up and felt around his hair until he found the leaf in the back of his head. He was about to toss it on the ground when he felt a warm hand on his cold one. He looked up, “Kai?”

Kai leaned forward and without saying a word pressed his lips to Ruki’s. It was not romantic, Kai did not have his eyes closed, nor were their tongues locked together in some sort of passionate love-fight, but there was something about it that made Kai’s head spin. Maybe it was Ruki. Maybe it was Ruki’s feelings pouring into him, or maybe it was himself.

He used to stay up at night wondering why he could not get to sleep, and why Ruki was on his mind. Or course, Kai just brushed it off as a result of the recent events.

It had taken all of his courage for Ruki to confess his feelings. Kai knew that it took a lot of courage to say it. They were sitting alone in the studio drinking some coffee and going over the details of the upcoming album when Ruki said it, and when Kai turned him down insisting that they were just friends, but even to Kai his words did not sound one hundred percent sure.

And now here they where, sitting on a bench in the park together kissing. To be fair it only lasted a few seconds, and it was only one kiss, but the meaning behind it was what really mattered.

It was surreal, to get together with someone who you have always thought of as a friend, but feelings change and opinions change.

Kai did not know for sure what they really were. Were they friends? No. Were they lovers? No. However, they had crossed that line. They were something more.
