Scamp stopped when she reached the top of the pass. She could see the Salvage in the distance, and relief swept over here. This summers scouting had been less then successful and ill news seemed to be everywhere. She'd treked through Nevada to Old Oregon in hopes of new trade contacts and found that even those they had worked with in the past had little extra to barter, what cattle there where looked to thin and the crops had suffered from a new virus this year. The most dis hearting news though was the raiders that seemed to be making there way closer and closer to the Tahoe Basin - her home.
She scanned the Salvage and saw that what was the foundation for a school house when she left, Cass' idea of course, was now fully built and apperantly in use! More children then she remembered seemed to be at rescess, once again the population had grown in her absence. Mamma Cass would take in any who were willing to work. Monster was out of the garage and loaded to the brim with trade goods, mostly fish she imagined.
Scamp jumped when she heard a man step on to the trai in front of her, then smiled as she recognized Jem, one of the lookouts.
"Where the hell have you been little woman," he said, relief odvious in his voice. "The Boss Lady's been awful cranky, you got her all worried, out so long. Shes been cuttin' it close not leaving for Davis yet!"
"Good to see you to Jem. I lost my mule about three weeks back, I shouldn't have taken him out anyway he was to old. Went lame on me so I traded him for iodine and dry goods to get home."
"Well you better hop on down that hill and get your whippins' and a good lunch! I'm on duty for a while longer."
"Yeah, yeah. Thanks Jem." Scamp shrugged her pack up a little higher on her shoulders and headed down the trail.
