Well, I guess if most pirates where you come from are adventurers rather than cutthroat psychotic bandits, you might not be too used to seeing so many fighters around.

It's pretty tough. There are all kinds of hazards on a ship, too. You don't want to trip over a rope or something. And if your opponent insults you you have to come up with a rhyming comeback.
