How the Hedgehog greeted the dawn
During the spring evenings, everyone dances in the forest. The Rabbit dances with the Squirrel, Woodpecker with the Sparrow, the Bearcub with the Donkey. Even the old Wolf circles the old stump sometimes swaying to the music despite himself..
"Quack, quack!" - yell the ducks on the river.
"Ribbet! Ribbet!" - the frogs answer.
"Whooo!" - sighes the Owl. He really doesn't like these bright spring evenings.
"Everyone is having fun"- thinks the Hedgehog strolling on the path between two firs- "Everyone is singing and dancing now. But then they will get tired and fall asleep. But not me! I will stroll here until the morning, and when the night will be ending, i will climb a hill an greet the dawn.."
Now the moon is shining in the sky, as the stars gather around it in a circle. The Rabbit is falling asleep, the Squirrel has hidden in her tree-hollow, the Bearcub walks back to his house, the Donkey runs home past the Hedgehog, and the Wolf yawns with his enormous jaws to then fall asleep with his mouth wide open.
Only the Hedgehog is still walking on his path from one fir tree to the other, waiting for the dawn to arrive.
"I will walk up that hill now!"- he says to himself. And all the way, he imagines what this spring dawn will be like.
"It will be green!" - he thinks - "Everything is green in the spring!"
There's a cold breeze blowing on the hill. The Hedgehog is cold, but he is still walking to and fro at the very top, waiting for the dawn to come.
"Come on!"- mutters the Hedgehog- "Where are you? I am cold already!"
But the dawn isn't coming.
"Whats keeping it?"- the Hedgehog is thinking - "It probably overslept!"
The Hedgehog lies down on the ground, rolls into a ball, and decides to take a small nap himself, to be fully awake when the dawn gets here. Then he falls asleep.
And then, the deep blue dawn arrives all covered in white fog tatters. Its breath rustles the Hedgehog's needles. "He's asleep" whispers the dawn and smiles. And as its smile grows wider and wider, everything around becomes brighter and brigher. So when the Hedgehog finaly wakes up, he sees the sun. The sun is swimming up to its ears in the fog, nodding its head to the Hedgehog.
