Its funny how the weather comes up in almost every conversation. It happens the same way every year, but every time its a shock to everyone (myself included).
Thanksgiving was marked by total awkwardness with extended family in LA. We stayed at my grandfathers (dads side) house in rolling hills, and while he was stoked on my buzzed haircut, it didnt stop him from lecturing my about how I need to think about my "career". After that mini lecture we somehow got into a discussion of politics, which i desperately tried to avoid. Obviously we are going to have no common ground (he being an old self made rich republican, me being a young "rebellious" anarchist), so the end result of that useless conversation was him essentially calling me "whats wrong with America" and "very 1960s". Also to further attest to his unsavory character, the first thing he said to my sister this year was "stand up, I want to see your figure". totally awesome gramps!
Lately Ive been thinking about where I should go after this spring or summer. I was thinking about moving to SF, but Im not so sure about that anymore. It would be interesting to move to a place I have no connection to and to just start anew in a totally different surrounding. This would be hard to do alone, since even in SC I often tend towards reclusiveness, but I suppose Ill just wait and see how things are/how I feel after spring. I dont think im going to stress about it yet.
One of the things keeping me here is my commitment to Spell it Out. Especially with the upcoming 7" recording and the possible tour in Europe this summer. For a while I wasnt sure I liked the lyrical and musical direction the band was taking, but now Im pretty into it. The songs are getting a little longer (and by longer I mean reaching 1 minute in length). I mean its still short fast and thrashy, but Bey and I are adding more interesting guitar dynamics to the songs, and the lyrics are progressing beyond inter-scene politics. Also I really like everyone in the band and sharing this project with them.
As for my black metal project, the name spor was taken by some techno group and i found out that in norwegian it means "groove" hahaha. SO i guess i wont be using that name. Ill need to do some more brainstorming on that one. I also need to record the rest of the songs I have so I dont just let this sit on the ground. Sometimes its hard to be self motivated.
enough for now.
