Hidemi Uematsu
Uematsu passed her adolescence in an environment that was never stable and constantly changed. Her father was strict and eventually her parents divorced and they were in a difficult economic situation where it was difficult to keep up with the expenses. Uematsu's father became increasingly estranged from Uematsu and her mother, who continue to struggle to survive.
At age 15, Uematsu decided to become a singer. Due to her troubled home life, Uematsu was not able to adjust to high school and had a hard time maintaining friendships and eventually she left high school. Though she left behind her school career, Uematsu did not abandon her passion for singing.
She started to create her own music at the age of 20 in the Tokorozawa gals club where she was in the club scene.

Hidemi Uematsu has realeased 2 singles so far (with the lastest one, Jidai, released on March 4, 2009. I don't even think it broke Oricon's top 30 singles chart). She also wrote and composed all 4 songs: 2 songs on each single. She's AMAZING. Others have stated that she sounds like a blend between AI, Alan and Shakira. I think it's because her music has this urban feel with bits of folksy yodeling (?). Her voice can get a bit nasally at times which I'm able to forgive because of how powerful and emotional her voicing/singing can get for the rest of the songs. Her lyrics reflect on her life and make the songs 10000000000x better IMO.
It took me 2 listenings to fall in love with her songs because she's very unique in her singing, songs and pvs. I see loads of potential in her as she is a relatively new jpop artist and hopefully more people will discover her.

It took me so long to find those 2 singles. Don't ask why. lol.
Personally, Jidai is my favorite musically. I'm still waiting for the lyrics to be posted =)
Also, her trademark seems to be wearing a cap to partially hide her face. hmm.
