The Charleston

Katie's 30th birthday was last Thursday, so I took her to the Charleston for dinner. The Charleston is one of Tony Forman's restaurants (along with Pazo, Petit Louis, and Cinghiale). Cindy Wolf (Tony's wife) is the head chef at the Charleston.

The menu gives you the option to choose a 3, 4, 5, or 6 course dinner. Once you decide how many courses you want, you then choose what you want for those courses. Dessert is included with your dinner, but does not count against your number of courses.

I went with the 4 courses and was pretty satisfied with the amount of food. I started out with the Charleston Shellfish Bisque with Lobster and Gulf Shrimp. The bisque was very tasty and had large pieces of lobster tail in it. My second course was the Scallop B.L.T with grilled sea scallops, Iberico ham, watercress and tomato. This was also excellent and the combination of the scallops and ham was just right. Third, I had the Pan-roasted Magret Duck Breast with button mushrooms and garlic. The duck was done perfectly. My last course however was what made the dinner amazing: Grilled bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin in a cognac cream with foie gras and Austrian Crescent Fingerlins. Yum :)

For dessert, I got a chocolate bombe with a grand marnier sauce in the center.
Katie ordered a glass of a 30 year old port to go with her dessert, and the waiter filled her glass twice since it was her birthday. Pretty cool of him since one glass was $42. He also brought out a third dessert that we hadn't ordered.

Probably not a restaurant I would spend money on going to too often, but definitely worth going to for special occasions :)
