flat tire

I'm not really sure what caused it, but I was getting onto I-95 south, coming from 295 south (or whatever the road is called there) and as I was merging into the second lane, I heard what I thought was a rock go around my wheel well, and then an odd thumping sound. I quickly got into the shoulder, which isn't very wide at that point, and checked. Sure enough, my driver side rear tire was flat. I decided to drive a little bit to get to a wider shoulder, which came right after the next on ramp (Washington blvd, I think), to put my spare on.

Katie and I were on our way to go hiking (i forget where exactly we were going, I think we were going to take 195 towards the airport, then get off at exit 4 and then after that, I am not sure) so that got cut out. I didn't really want to drive around any more than I had to, and I wanted to get to a place where I could get new tires. So I got back on 95 north, dropped Katie off at home, then took Gay street/Belair road home.

I had a coupon for 40 dollars off of tires at BJ's, and since we have bought tires from there before, and have been really happy with their wheel deal (balancing, patches for the life of the tire), I decided to go there again. Unfortunately, the tires the Miata requires are not very popular tires, so they had to order them, which will take about a week. But because the previous tires had been purchased there, the guy patched my leak for free, and had me on my way. I bought the new tires anyway since there is practically no tread left on them. From my records, these tires have about 47K miles on them, and about 7 years old. (Until last year, the Miata was purely a weekend car)
