The 'Nut

I got home to a note from the dog walker. He was amazed at how much energy she has. Apparently most dogs start slowing down after 20 minutes, but Peanut just kept trucking.

I took her with me when I walked to the 7-11 to get my dinner. She still has plenty of energy to spare. In the parking lot there's a drainage grate and rather than walk over or around it, she decided to jump it. I miss the days of taking her with me when I ride, but I'm not so sure she could handle it anymore. The last trail ride I took her on was 2 years ago and she slept for about 2 days after that. She used to follow me whether I was in the field, on the trail or in the ring. She'd run along behind Linus and sometimes, when she was feeling particularly sassy she's follow us over a jump. Sometimes she'd jump just for the hell of it.

Her appetite is huge today. I fed her and the cats before we left and when we got back and I started munching on my salad, The 'Nut begged and begged until I let her finish it off for me. She snorfled through the lettuce and got every last bit of cheese and meat and essentially cleaned the lettuce of the dressing. I know I shouldn't give in to her, but she's 14 1/2 and what's the harm at this point?

Last night I was reading up on different breeds, mainly the Bernese and Aussies. Then I decided to see what wikipedia had to say about the Brittany. Peanut is a wonderful cross between Lab/GSD/Brittany. She got most of the Brittany attributes it seems. They "are generally healthy and hardy dogs. They usually live 14-15 years." I love that Peanut got the best parts of each breed. The friendliness and trainability of the lab, the intelligence of the Shepherd and the health of the Brittany. Not to mention the bird dog point that she does when she smells something especially wonderful.

I love purebreds, but honestly, give me a mutt any day.
