Day two of the trip to Dar Es Salamm, Africa.
Today I went with our driver Haroon to school, he is studying english and basic computer skills at a small school in the outskirts of the city. I was one of two there that spoke english fluently and eventually got asked to stay for more then the 14 days that I am here so that I can teach basic computer and some english. So my second day here and I have already been offered a job as a teacher, I decided to help for a while as much as i can but im not going to stay any longer then is needed, mainly because I would rather see the black keys then help a country better themselves. I was surprised at how many people here spoke some english, it might just be where I am staying (The Millenium Towers, Dar Es Salaam) this hotel is where the best of the best stay in this city, the presidents lawyer being one of them, and the richest in the land. It is the equivelent to a comfort in back home or maybe some nicer hotel in the Houston area but not ot nice, just nice enough.
There is a haunting taste in everything here, it tastes like...poor quality. I cant even smoke a good cigarette here! I ran out of reds today and bought some camel filters, I thought "ok, you cant mess up some camel filters" I was surprised to see that these cigarettes tasted like the food here! its like they set the standard for quality lower then that of a school cafateria. The food either has bad meat, bad fruit, a rubbery feel, no distinguishing taste, or is flat out disgusting. I packed a shit load of slim jims though so I should be good for a while.
It is 1:40 in the morning here, making it around 6:00 or something over there. I have a wake up call at 5:00 because tomorrow I get on a flight for the sarangete, this entire weekend I will be on safari. There is a volcano here that collapsed into itself causing it to look like one big round crater, animals get in but they dont get out so its like a entire eco-system of trapped animals.
I have a couple of misquito bites on my face and hands, the thing about that is there is a strand of milaria going aroung. This isnt the south american type where you turn yellow then slowly get ill and maybe get over it after a while, this is the 3 days later your entire body shuts down and you dont have a chance of surviving. I slept pretty much all day today because that flight caught up to me. Yesterday I was in the city with Haroon and I was buying some shirts and shit for all of you back home, the mercheants try to cheat you if you dont speak swahili but Haroon owuld use this line "You stupid assholes are charging to much for this, just because this white man is holding the money doesnt mean he is a stupid villager, besides this is my money hes holding, im buying this shit."
usually this takes a good 55% of the price.
Swahili I know so far:
