So apparently the last tournament I went to got me enough experience points to gain a level with Chun-Li and as a player...
-Using Hosenka (ultra 1) as a punish more effectively, especially against Blanka since I'm always dealing with that matchup.
-Becoming a more patient player, as noted by Steve and other fight night peeps. One guy was all "What's happening, James? I'm waiting for you to randomly jump at me and it's just not happening...stop blocking everything!". Steve eventually told me "Okay, we need to talk about this you winning thing." I always had a lot of problems dealing with his Blanka and would often go twenty to thirty matches in a row of just getting bodied. Now were nearly 50/50. Getting there.
-Better emotional control. This is an often overlooked aspect of higher level play, and even the pros lose their nerve sometimes. I'm doing my best not to get frustrated over my executional errors or bad reads. That's all a part of being human and it'll improve as I continue grinding the training hours. I came to understand its importance when I started making one of my friends frustrated and got the sense I was getting in his head, like I could direct him to making mistakes and exploiting them.
So, sticking with the daily training with Chun. Also going to start a new training program I'm calling "One character, three days". Spend the first two days reading about a random character and getting a feel for them through training mode, then spending a day in Live matchups getting a little practical experience with them. The goal is to understand how the whole cast works on their fundamental levels so I can better learn how to fight them, as happened with Blanka and Fei Long.
Already looking forward to the next tournament so I can put all this to the test. ^^
