Had a good couple of days this weekend. Thursday I went to a book signing for YOU HAVE KILLED ME, which meant seeing Jamie Rich in public. This is always a fun thing. I didn't notice until I was on my way, but he signed my book "To the real Doctor," which was damn hilarious.
From there I went to the Piggy, where the Timbers played Wankouver. This was the final leg of the Cascadia Cup, which didn't mean as much this year with Shittle off in the MLS. (But come 2011... Oh yes.) In any case, we beat the Whitecraps 1-0, and with that the Cup is ours!
Fuck.
YES.
Then on Saturday, there was another match, this time against the Charleston Battery. Portland's own Alex Nemo started for the first time, and made his first goal of the season. The whole Army was chanting NE-MO! NE-MO! when he picked up his log at the end.
Final score: 3-1. And with that, the Timbers unbeaten streak extends to 20. No other team in the US, in any league, has managed this feat before. Fuck man, we're gonna win the league!
Prior to that match though, I managed to find time to finally go see MOON. Honestly, the plotline was lit up like fucking neon; I could see each and every element of the story coming from a mile away. Also, every time they showed a video feed from the mining execs, I was drawn out of the film. You see, the head of the company was played by Matt Berry. Not that you could see him very clearly, but his voice is distinct. And every time I heard him, I was expectin him to bellow for whiskey.
Thank god for Sam Rockwell though. His performance took the material that was forced and obvious and MADE it work. He was amazing, simply amazing. The sarking frood.
The only bit of suck over the weekend was that Erika got called in to work on Saturday, so she missed the match. This doubly sucked, in that she missed a brilliant match, and that I missed hanging out with her. It seems like the only times we hang out any more is on a game day. The rest of the time she's working or has plans with the girls. Sucks.
Anyway, the next two matches are away games vs. Montreal and Rochester. Hopefully, the streak will be of drinking age by Thursday.
