So after 3 months and 11 days in Korea, I've finally been struck by a bit of homesickness. Many people say it happens to most people after around 3 months when the newness wears off and you fall into a routine but.... I blame it on beer personally. I got a small group of people to head down to Gwangju, 1.5 hour train ride away, to the nearest brewpub in Korea. Now this brewery only made 3 beers, of which only one I cared for, the really dark one, but it sort of brought a sense of the usual that I used to have. There was our table of foreigners and then there was another table of foreigners, and there was no need or obligation to talk to them, like being in any other bar back home. In Iksan if you see someone who's not Korean you gotta talk to them because there are not very many of us, so we gotta talk to each other.
So I was talking with my friends about whether or not coming to the pub made things better or worse. It's nice to have a little taste of home close by, but it's not close enough to be convenient. But then it definitely reminded of us of one of the things we really enjoy about being home.... So anyways after climbing the next morning/afternoon I went to the bus station and I had a bit of a wait to head back, and there was a starbucks nearby... So I had myself a grande' cafe' mocha, and sipped it on the bus ride home while listening to an Accoustic Syndicate show from Boone... So I was feeling a little bit emo and wanted to come home, but now after working a day I'm back in my routine.
But I really do miss sitting in the Parkway... Jubelale is out in full force... Alas.
