"riff"'s a musical term, and my take on it is it's an improvisation based on another bit of music, but I'm possibly wrong, given I'm not a musician!

The hat - similar to those worn in the movie. (Which is NZ one, BTW.) I can't find a single extract on YouTube, but there's a trailer on the link above.

And a different cover, but same style of hat.
