oh no, this is my lab's new high. those people must have been drunk this weekend, because they obviously fucked with the solutions and pushed two rolls for me. crazy fuckers... it's really time i should buy this kodak machine and do these things myself! hello! :)
drunk--no doubt! mine seem drunk whenever i go in there, too. i know what you mean about the lab folks being incompetent--but i do love this effect. are you still shooting with expired film as well? my friend vetal-vetal calls them all 'photo pimps'--and he's right, they hold the key, don't they? someone needs to set us all up with darkrooms and machines and do it all right for once!
since film is being phased out these days, i guess it's not impossible to buy an inexpensive machine for color film? otherwise, black and white is not an option for me. anyway, i like the effect too, and it would be interesting to experiment with the development process - not to be compared with photoshop, indeed! as a matter of fact most of what i shoot is so wrong color-wise as to make it unusable although other aspects (non-color) can turn out great. maybe professional film would help, but i'm not photofreak enough for that, not yet!
i think you should stick with what you're doing, because you have such a unique style and really earthy results. honestly, when i think back to the earliest photos i saw from you, the ones that made me add you to start with, what struck me most were the tones and colors in your digital photos. since you've now gone back to film, my interest has increased even more--you're making such amazing images with such amazing colors and tones! there is no reason to switch out anything!
but you don't realize what tiny yield i have! and mostly because of the colors - god knows how many photos have been lost because i couldn't correct the color, while they didn't make any sense in black and white. color is very difficult with those consumer films. have you tried professional? like, for example pastel wedding type film?

yes, i usually shoot in some professional film, like the kodak portra c-41 film and the kodak ektachrome e-6 film (which i usually cross process, but it looks amazing when processed normally.) i love the fuji pro films, because they have really saturated colors that look really nice, especially through those lomo lenses. but i also love that agfa film you sent me! i think you might try one roll of the kodak portra and see if you like it. the NC has more natural colors, and the VC is brighter and more saturated.
i ran out of expired film many months ago! but i overexpose most of the time to take away the most vibrant colors (although unfortunately they take some of the detail and contrast along with them!)
btw, hello :) i've missed you and your world :)
