its kinda sad that other charities get "short changed". i dont think its so much that funds/donations get taken away from other places, it's just that they wish that kind of attention and support could be given to ongoing domestic problems too.
we had something like that in peterborough.. where there was this huge big thing about flood relief and lots of people gave really generously and things were taken care of really well. i heard a couple of shouts though about how horrible it is that people occasionally open their hearts to larger popular disaters but ignore things ongoing on their doorstep, like a support group/house here for deaf and disabled persons which is horribley stupidly underfunded.
not in anyway should the larger popular problems be shrugged off. i think its great that people see the problem and open up to try to help. i think the only actual issue with smaller places getting "short changed" is that instead large disasters causing people to realize that there are problems and people in the world that need some help, and that everyone can pull together and contribute... a lot of people look at it as "this is my good deed for the year, now im done" instead of opening their eyes to the whole picture.
