Our plane back from Maui was delayed by two hours. Something about a shortage of de-icer in Seattle. Plus the bad snow storm delayed many travellers (we saw some still sleeping in SeaTac). So we were pretty lucky. Got into Seattle at about 1 am, retrieved all our luggage (no dripping messes from wine or chocolate), and hunted down the Shuttle Express guys. Athough they did not have the promised limo, they did send us out in a van with no other passengers. So the drive back to V's was uneventful. When we got further down Woodinville-Duvall Road, it got a bit messier, and the hill on his street was a bit dicey, but we made it. That too was fortunate as the driver said for much of the last week they were not going to people's houses, but would only do pickups and dropoffs at major hotels. He helped us schlep the bags to the front porch through knee deep snow. I was glad I wore my jeans and hiking boots on the plane! (Even if it looked dumb in the Maui airport.)
Although we had power when we tumbled into bed about 3am, it went out before sunrise, as I was awakened to the beeeeep beeeeep beeeeep of the UPS under the tv equipment going off. (Actually they were going off all over the house, but that was just the one keeping me awake). As of this writing, it is still out. A neighbor says there is a tree across Woodinville-Duvall Road wrapped around a power line. So I guess we may be stuck this way until tomorrow. We have a gas fireplace, a Bar-B-Q grill on the deck, and lots of kerosene lamps, candles, and lanterns. And Internet via my sweet little G1 phone, at least until I suck all the batteries dry. Tomorrow we'll resume trying to dig out the driveway. We're close to getting the big 4wd pickup out! I'll post photos when the computers are back online.
Merry Christmas everyone! Hug someone you love for me.
