A pointless bit of Criminal Minds fluff

A quick post-ep for Closing Time, without plot or form and mostly just because I wanted to use that quote.  Also, the muse apparently thinks I can't say anything without a contradiction.

“You’re kidding.”

Dave grinned.  “I’m not.”  He leaned back against the couch cushions.  “Aaron has a date.”

Emily snickered.  “If you get any more smug, you’ll implode.”  She slipped off her shoes and curled her feet under her at the other end of the couch.  “It’s about time, though.”

Dave sobered.  “Yeah.  Every recovery from loss is different, but he’s too much alone.”

Emily shot him a dry glance.  “Careful, there, Rossi, you’re starting to sound downright girly.”

“My testosterone levels are just fine, thank you very much.”  He gave her a disdainful look that only made her snicker again.

“As I can attest.  No, I agree with you, but how did you know?”

“I have my ways.”  Casually he hooked one of her feet out from under her, settling it in his lap and rubbing his thumb along the arch, and then grinning when her eyes rolled back in her head.  It took only seconds for her to extend her other leg as well.

“What, he wanted advice for getting back in the dating game?”  Her eyes were closed in pleasure, but Emily’s voice was sharp and amused.

Dave chuckled.  “He wanted restaurant recommendations.  I deduced the rest.  I’m an investigator, you know, I find these things out.”

She made a pfft sound.  “He’ll kill you if he ‘finds out’ you told me.”

“Please.  If he thinks he can keep his personal life secret around our lot he’s delusional.”  He moved his fingers down to Emily’s heel and smirked at the undignified noise that came out of her throat.

“He’ll never trust you again,” she said, unencumbered foot sliding sideways just enough to get his attention.

“A man who trusts,” Dave quoted ostentatiously, “cannot be betrayed, only mistaken.  And as we know, our fearless leader never makes mistakes.”

That won him a snort and a little more pressure from her foot.  “Think he’ll get lucky?”

“At the moment,” and his voice was constricted, “I’m more interested in whether I’ll get lucky.”

“Trust me,” Emily said, opening her eyes.  “It’s a sure thing.”

The rest of the discussion was postponed.
