Good news, I guess - my mom got discharged from the hospital.  I say "I guess" because she's not exactly back to normal.  She still seems to have a bit of that vicious streak she demonstrated at the hospital.  Not that she's attacked anyone, but still...  Kinda weird.  My sister and I were also hoping to use the opportunity of her being in the hospital to get her transferred to a true assisted living facility.  Apparently that's the best time to do it.  Everyone Kat talked to about it totally dropped the ball.

I told her about Gremlin last night - he had been a family cat for 5 or 6 years, then he went with her when she moved out (yes, I know, kids are supposed to be the ones to move out, not parents...).  He lived with her another 2 or 3 years until she was no longer able to care for him (that's when I brought him down to ATL), and he was always one of her favorites.  She's been talking for a few years now about wanting to come down to visit him and see if he remembers her.  I'm sure he would have.  She missed him a lot, but since she's not able to drive, it never really worked out.  And now it's just too late.  Another bit of sadness to add to the rest of it.  It's extra sad, because we have been planning for over a month now for Mom and Kat to come down to visit me this coming weekend.  Poor Grem just didn't make it that long.

I've been trying to keep all this in perspective, I really have.  One tiny death amongst a whole world full of death and suffering.  Still, although he never said a single word to me (in English, anyways), he was still probably my best friend.  Loved him more dearly than I ever fully realized, before.  Really throws off any sense of "perspective", I guess.

This weekend should be good, though, if they do still come down.  I'm planning out meals and activities for us, and I think we'll all have a great time.  Mom's never seen my house, even though I've been here 5 years.  She's only seen pictures, and those were the ones the previous owner posted online with their furniture and stuff.

I spent a lot of time cleaning up the house today in preparation for the visit, and also to try to keep my mind occupied.  Didn't work too well as far as that goes, because most of the stuff I've been cleaning up has been food bowls and litter boxes and cat hair.  Oh well, I guess it's part of the process.

Anyways, time to head down to Leland's for a (very) late dinner.
