You should tell him. If you don't then you'll wonder what could have happened if you did and that could cause even more damage to your emotions than trying and failing. Only do this under two conditions though: 1. You know that you might not get the reaction that you want and are prepared to take that. and 2. You know that you do truly like him and won't regret telling him this later. Try to keep regrets to a minimum.
