The "Wheel In The Sky" 2011 Rewatch: Intro

Aug 05, 2011 19:37

Nine months ago, I hated Supernatural. I'd never seen an episode of it, but I didn't need to see it to hate it. "The Apocalypse? Please, formulaic and boring. Who the fuck is Castiel, why is he everywhere, and why won't these people shut up about him? The Norse god Loki was secretly the archangel Gabriel the whole time? Seriously, fuck that show and its tasteless, rabid fans."

That was early November 2010.

So then, okay, that last one kinda caught my attention. One YouTubed Gabriel-death-scene later: "Wow. Shivved by his own brother. That sucks. This Gabriel guy is funny. ...Pretty awesome, actually. Too bad he's on such an awful show."

Later, after idly browsing Wikipedia: "Wait, he's only in four episodes? Well, I guess I can watch four episodes. What's the worst that could happen?"

Famous. Last. Words.

By now, I've seen every episode of Supernatural more than once, some only twice, but some a dozen or more times. My first convention was NashCon 2011. NashCon 2012 is going to be a part of my summer next year. Fanfiction, fanart, Twitter, Tumblr, Livejournal, the fandom I've experienced has cemented my love for this show, this understated, melodramatic show we all love and hate and love all over again, the most popular show that no one watches.

Season Seven is looming. Season Six left us all a little lost. We don't know what's going to happen. There are hundreds of flyaway theories, built off interviews to watch and read. The frantic discussion won't finish until Season Seven airs, but no matter what we want to see happen, I think we're all a little afraid.

It started off so simple: two brothers in a sexy car. Saving people, hunting things. The family business. I know what's going to happen to Sam and Dean, but the simple fact is, I want to see it all again. TNT shows episodes, two a day during the week, and this week they flipped straight from the end (of Season Five, at least) back to the beginning, right in the middle of the week. They started over like it was no big deal, and I realized that I could do that too. No matter what happens, we'll always have what's come before.

So I'm going to watch it all again, and I'm going to write about it. My rewatch posts probably won't be much more than my thoughts on each episode in order as I think about what's still to come, the stuff we know about and the stuff we don't.

Supernatural has something. It can't quite be nailed down. We all came to this show for different reasons, but the thing is, we're all still here. Six seasons in, facing down a seventh, we're still here. Whether you sat down and watched the Pilot when it first aired in 2005, or your first episode was last week, you're still one of us. So...this is for us.
