I've been trying to research US military involvement in Bosnia, and it really seems like mostly Army, but I'll look into it more. Although I like him as Top Gun, being a pilot doesn't really work with the chronology, since the Navy, the Marines and the Air Force require a longer commitment than he'd have time for. The Marine's commitment for a pilot is 8 years, IIRC.
Thanks for the kids info! I should just track down that ep and watch it again. Younger works better for me, since I really want Nathan to get a little bit of time of being single in New York City.
I don't think he was taking over his father's candidacy--it sounded from "Six Months Later" that his father was in way too deep as a mob lawyer to be someone who could run for office, but you could be right. That would be some real (and really annoying) TV magic. He could have taken up the campaign because of his father's death, because his father's death made him realize that he's responsible for the Petrelli name, and running for Congress might redeem it.
I can see his military career as very calculated, knowing he has a better chance of getting elected especially by middle ground people if he has done military service. I think it's possible that he wanted to be President from (near) birth, and his father's death just told him it was time to put those plans in action.
