Ion hadn't left the beach since he had killed Rukia. He knew that her precious Ishida would want to come and retrieve her, which would give him the perfect opportunity to rid the place of more filth. Since he had no idea that Ion's kindness was no longer genuine, this would make things all the more perfect, since an innocent guise would prevent any suspicion...
He peered down towards Rukia's corpse, a communicator in one hand, and his staff in the other. All he would essentially need to do is play kind and innocent until the right moment, and then everything would be perfect...
