Who: Akito, Yuki What: Yuki agreed to see Akito (unfortunately this was before Akito had a genderchange) Where: Sohma house Rating: PG-13? will change if necessary
Shigure had said this was okay. Yuki had been a little surprised, after he and Hatori had been so clearly meaning to keep him from seeing Akito in his current state, that he had agreed so quickly, but he wasn't going to question it. He was just going to try and not infuriate the head of the family. Which meant, apparently, acting in a completely contrary manner from what he remember Akito insisting on.
But Akito was acting so differently. He was being nice.
Yuki only hesitated for a moment or two, then knocked on the door. "Akito-san?"
He was here. Yuki was here. Akito called out, "Come in," irritation making his voice harsher than it should have been. He wasn't irriated at Yuki, merely at the situation.
He walked over to the window, facing away from the door. Yuki had had amnesia. It had seemed that he didn't recall meeting Akito face to face as an adult - as the age the god was now. Akito had to hope he wouldn't notice anything strange.
Yuki was almost proud of himself for not shrinking from the harsh edge to Akito's voice. He made himself open the door, and go in. He made himself look at the person within without flinching, without cowering, because he was supposed to be grown up, and he wasn't supposed to be afraid.
Akito looked much different than he remembered. Older. Still pretty rather than handsome, but in a subtler way.
His embarassment at the current situation was forgotten at the look on Yuki's face. The boy couldn't meet Akito's eyes, it seemed... The memories of their time spent together as children must be very recent to Yuki, Akito thought, but to him they were far in the past. It was hard almost to remember what exactly had gone on in that time... why Yuki was as afraid as he was.
That Yuki had followed Akito's wishes over those of the rest of the family should have been expected, but given the rat's unsureness before... Akito felt glad, and relieved, that he'd been chosen over the others still. "I'm proud of you Yuki," he said, his voice slightly amused, and not carrying the slightest tone of pride. Yet he was - and he hoped Yuki would feel encouraged by that.
Yuki kept his gaze on the floor. That couldn't be true, could it? Akito didn't sound proud. He didn't really sound anything, except maybe amused. And he hadn't really done anything, except what he was told. Certainly, he had been told by the others that he couldn't see Akito yet, but when he'd spoken with Shigure again the dog no longer had any objection. Yuki had to wonder why they stopped him in the first place.
Akito stepped forward. Having been so earnest in claiming that he wished to see Akito, the god thought Yuki really ought to show a little more happiness now.
"Don't you believe me?" he asked, still with the same slightly mocking tone of voice. "Perhaps you didn't want to see me very much after all. I'm hurt, Yuki." He paused within arm's reach, waiting for an answer.
Yuki's head snapped up and he finally met Akito's eyes. For a second, he was confused, because something was different and he didn't know what, but then the feeling passed and he was left with just being frightened again. "N-no, I... I do believe you... I wanted..."
He'd expected some kind of denial from Yuki, an insistance that he believed Akito, but not for Yuki to continue. After a pause, when it seemed the rat was going to leave the sentance unfinished, Akito prompted softly, "You wanted..?" He was determined to hear everything Yuki had to say. He'd been surprised before, so surprised to hear that Yuki had still wanted to see him despite others speaking against it and the rat's most recent memories being of his childhood. Akito didn't know why it had been Yuki's own choice to see him.
"I wanted to be sure you were here. To know that something about this place wasn't... wrong," Yuki finished quietly, eyes once again locked on the floor. It was the truth, as best as he could explain it.
"This place is wrong." Akito's voice came out harsher than he had intended; taking a breath, he continued in a slightly more measured way. "It's unnatural. People changing, leaving, coming back... it's wrong. All of it. I despise it." That creature, that had destroyed two of the spirits, possibly forever. It could never have happened, back home. It would never have happened.
But Yuki spoke of Akito's presence here as positive. Well, of course he would. Akito should be and was the most important person to him - to all of them. But it was still unexpected. "Where would you be without me, Yuki?" he murmured, more to himself than to the young man in front of him.
Something was strange about that statement. People were always leaving and coming back. Akito had to mean something other than the obvious. What other sort of leaving was there? Leaving the mortal plane?
Ayame had been dead.
Yuki nearly lost his balance then, his legs threatening to give out on him. No, his brother - but his brother hadn't been his brother, had he? He'd changed in that unnatural way, he'd been female.
"I... don't know where I'd be..." he whispered, trying to make sense of his thoughts. Akito...
Yuki had looked quite strange then for a moment, as though he might collapse. After a moment of indecision, Akito put out a hand to steady him. "There's no need to worry. Bonds such as these can't be broken." No matter that the Tiger and the Sheep had been destroyed. He wouldn't let that creature touch Yuki - touch any of the others. Whatever Shigure may say about the possibility of life without the curse, Akito could not envision a world like that.
"...you... I'll always have you, won't I, Akito-sama?" he asked quietly, leaning a little into the hand that held him up. The thpought made him smile. He'd promised he would never leave Akito.
"I'll always have you, Yuki," Akito said, unable to help the correction. The Juunishi had their own lives; they weren't his alone. Just his more than anyone else's. And if Yuki was loyal, and didn't need persuasion - "That's for you to decide," he said softly, a second answer to Yuki's question. He hoped the rat's willingness to be close to the god would interpret this as a need to strive harder on Yuki's part, rather than an opportunity to move away from Akito.
But Akito was acting so differently. He was being nice.
Yuki only hesitated for a moment or two, then knocked on the door. "Akito-san?"

"Yuki." He spoke the name as a greeting, emotionless. "So you came to see me after all."
