"Ow..." The young girl mumbled, her hand clamped over the side of her stomach, taking a few more steps before stopping completely. She bent over, breathing deeply, but the chilly night air was stinging her throat. Anise couldn't do this anymore. A hand reached back toward her tattered puppet, pulling out the small communication device from its bag. She pushed a few buttons, before opening her mouth to speak, a small white puff of her breath floating out. She'd have to record a message. It'd be easier.
"Tear..." She started before falling into a coughing fit. She held onto her side harder, when she felt something wet. She raised her hand to her eyes and saw blood. It shimmered in flickering light of the street lamps. "Damn," the girl whispered to herself. The apple gel Asch had given her earlier had stopped the bleeding, but all her moving must have opened the wound.
"Tear, c-can you come get me? I'm a couple streets away from the hotel. I-I can't walk anymore. I can send Tokunaga a bit closer to show you the way, but--" A cough. "Sorry.."
Tear was slightly startled as her communication device started blinking. She quickly grabbed it and the word ‘Anise’ greeted her. Bringing the device closer to her ear so she could hear the message clear, she gasped slightly as the message finished. Normally, she would’ve quickly rushed to Anise’s aid, but her.... new gender made her hesitate. She, or should we say he, didn’t know if Anise would even recognize her. But Anise sounded like she was in trouble and her little gender bender issue would have to wait. Luckily, the few days she had isolate herself from everyone else allowed her to get used to the new body.
She rushed out the door, making sure to lock it. As she got outside, the chilly air went right through her thin shirt. It was a new moon, the streetlights were the only thing to help her. After about one and a half block, she spotted a small crouching figure, along with a familiar orange doll.
"Anise!" She called out in a deep voice, while rushing towards her.
She looked up at the sound of her name. It sounded familiar, but it was very different. "W-who is it?" Anise coughed out. She squinted her eyes at the figure that came towards her, the light shining in the back obscuring view of the face.
"It’s.. Tear" She replied as she reached the girl.
She frowned and she noticed the many markings on her necks. Placing her hands over the wounded girl, she concentrated on a ‘Healing Circle’.
"Tear?" Anise blinked at the.. man curiously. "N-no way!" She looked down at the glowing fonic circle underneath her, feeling its power almost immediately. She sighed in relief, as the fonons worked their way around her wound, healing it. "Y-you ARE Tear!" It had to be her. She was the only one who could perform this arte which required one of Yulia's songs.
The Fonist nodded.
"I’m... not sure what happened, but when I woke up one day.. I was like this" She tried to explain her strange situation.
The girl pushed herself off the floor, lightly touching her side. It didn't hurt as much now. She directed her attention away from her wound and to Tear right after. Reaching up to touch his face, she pinched his cheeks, almost as if she was making sure it wasn't a mask. Ultimately failing in the end of course, since it wasn’t a mask.
"Wow~ I had heard some people were changing, but I didn't think it'd happen to one of us!" She started giggling, but stopped when she felt the pain flare up again. Anise winced but put on a smile for Tear. "At least you're very handsome."
She returned a weak smile and felt her cheeks warm up a little. A tingle of self-assurance swelled inside her knowing she wasn’t the only one who had this problem.
"What happened?" She asked, changing topics.
"I.. I fought with Arietta." Anise grabbed the older girl's hand and turned toward the hotel, trying to hide her face. She began walking down the street. "Um, Tear? Can you sew?"
She saw how uncomfortable the girl was with the subject and decided not to press on.
"I’m... decent at it." She replied. She sew many holes torn in battle a few times, both on people, when her healing spells were weaker, and on clothing.
"Can you help me fix Tokunaga then?" Her voice wavered as she asked this. The doll no longer hung on her shoulders, but was held close to her body. It was tattered and dirty, an arm barely hanging on by a thread.
"Sure" She hoped her male hands were just as capable as sewing as her female hands were. "Do you have any needles or threads on you?"
"No, but I think there was a kit in my room inside the nightstand." They were in front of the hotel now. She let go of Tear's hand and went in, back to their rooms. She dug around in the nightstand's drawer before pulling out a small box. She hugged her doll, nuzzling it carefully. "Don't worry, Tokunaga. You'll be almost-new in no time!"
She walked over to the younger girl and patted her shoulder gently for comfort. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, she prepare to sew Tokunaga. As she predicted, her broader hands were a lot clumsier than her original smaller ones. A stinging annoyance came over her as her stitches came uneven again.
"Not sure how new he’ll be.."She mumbled quietly.
"It's okay." She smiled at the gi-- man. "As long as he isn't close to falling apart again. I.. really overdid it with Tokunaga.."
Holding the doll at above eye level, she observed her work. Not as neat as she had hoped for, but it looked better than it did previously. She handed it back to Anise.
"How’s ... Arietta?" Unsure if she should really ask.
She hugged Tokunaga and gave Tear a grateful smile. "Thank you!" She nuzzled it a bit more, feeling a bit comforted.
She blinked at Tear's question, a bit unsure herself. "Arietta.. ran off after Asch saved me.. I don't know if she's alright."
"Asch saved you?" She repeated wasn’t sure if she heard right, for all she knows being changed into a male could affect her hearing. After all, males do have a habit of not listening.
"Yeah!" She scratched her head. "I was a bit surprised to see him there too, but I think he was there for Arietta."
"I see." Most of the God-Generals weren’t veryfriendly to each other, but she guessed someone of them share a bond of some sort.
Anise stared at Tear curiously. It was strange seeing her like this. She did make a very handsome man, though. "Hey, do the others know you're like.. that?"
"No.." She admitted. "I actually haven’t gone out very much since this change."
Very much was a understatement of course, she hasn’t gone out at all.
Gasp! "So that's why I haven't seen you for so long!" Not that she went out much herself, the older girl was prone to be locked up in that room for hours on end. "Geez, I thought you were dead or something! You could have told me, y'know!" She pouted.
"Sorry. But I was hoping it would reverse itself...."
"I wonder if it CAN reverse itself~" Anise put on a thoughtful look. "Maybe there's a cure."
"You mentioned there were people who had similar problems?" She almost forgotten due to her worrying about Anise.
The little girl yawned, rubbing her eyes. "Y-yeah, there were, I think. There could be someone looking for a cure.." She yawned again. "Tear, do you mind if I talk to you in the morning? I'm really.. tired." She was mentally and physically tired.
"It’s fine." She stood up. "I’m pretty tired too."
She headed for the door.
"I’ll be next door if you need anything."
"Thanks a bunch, Tear~" She called after him, smiling. Anise climbed into her bed and fell into a slumber immediately, snuggling onto Tokunaga. The battle had really taken a toll on her and she would need to rest for quite a while.
