He hadn't even realized he'd been humming until the knocking made him stop. Funny, that. Ryou had clearly left him in a very good mood. With a sigh Cain realized he was grinning as well. Very strange. He'd have to look into that.

Deftly tugging his mask away from his face, the young 'chemist' took another moment to finish shoveling something into something else (things were so confused on his mixing table that it was a wonder he still knew what was going on) before wiping his hands on a towel and heading up the stairs as the second knock came.

He tsked, not bothering to shout that he was coming. This time he'd rolled the cuffs of his pants up, thankfully, as well as his shirt sleeves. Making it to the door without tripping, Cain remembered to glance through the peephole briefly before tugging the door open, tilting his head and arching his brow at the newcomer. "Anxious, Malik?"

Malik didn't like girls. He felt it was necessary to go over this again in his mind. Perhaps underline it several times. He did not like girls. He didn't find them attractive. He didn't want one. He had, more than once, wondered what it was like to be one, but as he was currently playing out that scenario he didn't think he'd ever be curious about them again. The fairer sex held no interest for him.

Which was why he couldn't understand his reaction to Cain. This was a girl, after all, previously male or not. But Cain was...

"...a-ah, no," he said, not feeling particularly intelligent anymore. "Intimidated, maybe. You're..." Beautiful, gorgeous, breathtaking; somehow they all fell short. He felt his cheeks start to burn.

...well. That certainly wasn't the reaction he'd expected. His interactions with Malik perviously had been crisp and clean, banter and politics, nothing out of the ordinary when one brought two attractive and like-minded young men together. So the stuttering now was unexpected. Ah well. Perhaps things simply never panned out in person the way one wanted them to. It was a little disappointing. Thankfully, Malik had retained the fragile hidden beauty that had attracted Cain when they'd first run into each other in the aether.

"...what I am is in the same predicament as you," he filled in smoothly, shaking his head slightly and pushing the hair that fell loose back behind his ear. "Will you come in, dear?"

Not waiting for an answer, Cain flashed a cheerful little smile and latched onto the Egyptian's wrist, pulling him in the door with a deft little tug.

He allowed himself to be pulled inside, using the moment to gather his wits. It really was unnecessary to fall so much apart just from seeing someone. Even if that someone happened to be much more than you expected. In more ways than one. Malik frowned a little. Cain had looked... disappointed. And even though he wasn't sure why, exactly, he had the feeling it was something he could've kept from happening. Which made him more than a little angry at himself.

"I brought what you asked for," he said, building off the other's mention of their predicament. Not that he was really all that bothered by it, but he knew others were uncomfortable with themselves now.

He wondered if Cain was uncomfortable like that. Probably, since he came over all British, and they simply didn't do anything out of the ordinary. But Cain had seemed much more interesting than that.
